Fans of speed are probably familiar with the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It has been around since 1993 and this year it will return once again. We’ve gather everything that we know so far about this year’s event and put together a little guide to make it easier for you the get the most from the festival.
Let’s start with this year’s theme, which is: Full Throttle – The Endless Pursuit of Power. The Goodwin Festival of Speed is known for its fascinating themes. Each year a different one is chosen and somehow they always manage to make it sound cool and intriguing.
Since this year’s event will celebrate BMW’s 100th anniversary, we can probably expect the brand’s presence to be quite noticeable throughout the event. On top of that a number of other anniversaries are expected to be celebrated at the event, including the 100th anniversary of Indianapolis 500 as well as the 50th anniversary of the Can-Am Series.
A number of names have already been announced for the event including the likes of Sir Stirling Moss, Jenson Button and Emerson Fittipaldi, who will all make an appearance.
Since the Goodwood Festival of Speed is a celebration of the history of motorsport, we can probably expect a lot more fantastic activities, people and vehicles to be announced.
The event attracts thousands of attendees each year, with a reported 158,000 people attending in 2003. Today around 100,000 people descend on the festival on each of the three days it is held, since ticket sales had to be capped at 150,000.
There’s no denying that the Goodwood Festival of Speed is a part of motor history. Since it’s still going strong after over 20 years, we can probably expect it to stick around for years to come.
